Original manuscripts of two musical compositions:

Paris: 1925. 1, "Mon jour terreste diminue" a setting of Paul Claudel's poetry for voice and orchestra. Six pages, musical partition, in red and black ink, with hand written cover and a formal dedication to Adrienne Monnier. Signed at the end and dated June 1920 and 2, "Finale des Choeurs pour un exposition Coloniale. A la mémoire de Joseph Conrad et ses navigateurs" Six pages, musical partition, in pencil, with title and annotations in ink. 350 x 270 mm. Inscribed by Benoist-Méchin to Adrienne Monnier. Before becoming a politician,the young Benoîst-Méchin tried his hand as a composer. He was not yet 20 years old when he wrote the first piece. At Adrienne Monnier's request, he also translated the "Penelope" section of Joyce's "Ulysses," for which he supplied musical notation that Joyce had photographed and used in print. When he was an official in the Vichy government, Benoîst-Méchin was able to use his influence to have Sylvia Beach released from internment. Item #29280
