American composer Thomson (1896-1989) is best known for his opera Four Saints in Three Acts to a libretto by Gertrude Stein. He wrote numerous orchestral and chamber works, served as music critic of the New York Herald Tribune (1940-1954), and in 1948 received the Pulitzer Prize for his score to the film Louisiana Story.
